The City of Leavenworth has received additional CARES funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce. The U.S. Department of the Treasury has allocated additional funding for the State of Washington. Consequently, the City of Leavenworth has received an additional $30,600 for COVID-19 related expenses.
The funding provides additional assistance due to the public health emergency with respect to the Corona virus (COVID-19). These funds need to be spent by November 30, 2020.
Mayor Florea of Leavenworth indicated that “we have already spent the first allocation of $61,200 which provided the resources we needed to successfully close Front Street, provide free masks, increase and update signage, hire Downtown Ambassadors and effectively play the role of educator to protect our residents and visitors during these uncertain times.”
The City entered into a Contract with the Department of Commerce for a total of $91,800 which reflect the first allocation and the second addition. These funds increase the City’s capacity to design, implement, evaluate and modify measures that help protect residents, visitors and staff from potential effects of COVID-19.
“The City is grateful for a strong partnership with the Department of Commerce; we hope that with this new allocation, we can acquire equipment and technology that can facilitate municipal services for the long term as we do not know when ‘normal’ will return: said City Administrator Ana Cortez.
