This project will replace and upsize approximately 5,400 feet of existing 12-inch diameter domestic water transmission main between the City’s groundwater well site on Icicle Road, to the intersection of US Highway 2 and Icicle Road, and to the intersection of US Highway 2 and Mill Street. All work is anticipated to take place within previously disturbed areas, including within the limits of Icicle Road and US Highway 2 and potentially along City-owned access roads to both the well site and the reservoir. In order to serve water customers during construction, the existing transmission main is anticipated to remain live until the new, proposed main is complete. Therefore, the proposed main must be laid adjacent to the existing main.
As identified in the City’s 2018 Water System Plan, the transmission main is to be upsized to to 18-inch diameter between the groundwater well site and the Icicle Road Reservoir and upsized to 20-inch diameter from the Icicle Road Reservoir to the intersection of US Highway 2 and Mill Street.
This project increases the capacity of the water distribution system, benefits water customers directly by providing greater water pressure during the peak hour, and increases the availability of fire flow in a high fire risk community.
