FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Resignation of Councilmember Michael Molohon

Leavenworth City Councilmember Michael Molohon announced his resignation from the City Council effective March 20, 2016. Michael was appointed to the Leavenworth City Council in 2007 by Mayor Wyles, and elected to the position in 2008 and again in 2012. He has worked with three Mayors and three City Administrators during his time on the Council.

Council Member Molohon lived in Germany for many years; this experience combined with his attention to detail were extremely beneficial for improving the authenticity of the Bavarian Theme. The project Michael is most proud of was the development of the Downtown Master Plan and the realization of that plan with the completion of the 9th Street & Commercial Street re-build in conjunction with the Cascade Medical Center expansion, followed by the re-construction of Front Street from Division to Highway 2. He was successful in convincing the planners that all utility lines needed to be underground, as they would be in Bavaria. He felt that it made a dramatic difference in the street scape for both projects.

Councilmember Molohon additionally has served as a board member of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, and is an active participant on Programs such as Economic Development, Downtown Steering Committee, Parks Committee, AG Tourism, Arts Committees, and Leavenworth Pride. Michael also officiates at scores of weddings each year in the upper Wenatchee Valley. Michaels service to the community of Leavenworth has been invaluable and he will be missed.

The City will begin the process of filling the City Council position held by Council Member Michael Molohon by accepting letters of interest. Under Washington law, the City Council has 90 days to appoint a city resident to fill the vacancy.  Residents interested in serving in the position are encouraged to submit a letter of interest outlining relevant experience and qualifications to City Administrator Joel Walinski at Leavenworth City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2016.  Under Washington law qualified applicants must be a registered voter, must reside within the City and have lived within the City limits for at least one year.
