THE CITY OF LEAVENWORTH TO HOLD RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE THE REOPENING OF A NEW AND INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND

LEAVENWORTH, WA — August 27, 2024 – After several weeks of construction, the City of Leavenworth announces the grand reopening of the newly renovated playground at the former Osborn Elementary School on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. This exciting project has been a true community effort, led by a dedicated Neighborhood Playground Committee and enriched by valuable feedback from city residents through public surveys.

The project was funded in part by an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant, which was created with COVID-19 relief dollars. This financial support has been crucial in bringing this project to fruition and enhancing our community’s recreational facilities. The total cost for the playground equipment, pour-in-place rubber surfacing, and installation amounted to just over $957,000. The new playground is designed to provide a safe, fun, and inclusive space for children and families to enjoy.

“After recognizing the need for an inclusive playground, I am thrilled to see this project come to fruition. This playground is a testament to the City’s efforts to create community spaces that are welcoming and accessible for all our residents,” said Mayor Carl Florea. “This new playground embodies our values of inclusivity, community, and joy. I look forward to bringing my grandkids here to play and seeing the smiles of other children as they enjoy this wonderful new addition to the neighborhood. We are committed to providing both passive and active recreation spaces to our working community where families of all types can thrive. This project was made possible through a dedicated and collaborative partnership between City staff and a committee of volunteers, and we look forward to continuing these types of cooperative and collective efforts on future projects.”

You are invited to join City officials for a short ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this wonderful addition to the community. There will be an opportunity to meet the members of the Neighborhood Playground Committee and City staff who worked tirelessly to make this project a reality.
