FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
RESIGNATION OF COUNCILMEMBER ROBERT FRANCIS
Leavenworth City Councilmember Robert (Bob) Francis announced his resignation from the City Council effective August 23, 2016. Council Member Francis was appointed to the Leavenworth City Council on November 28, 2008 by Mayor Robert Eaton; Bob was elected to the position in 2009 and again in 2013. Bob served on numerous Council Committees during his tenure including Public Safety, Finance and Public Works. He also served on the City’s Residential Advisory Committee.
Councilmember Francis retired from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office in 2015 with 26 years of service. He also has served as a board member of Projekt Bayern, and is an active participant in many of the Cascade School District programs. Bob’s service to the community of Leavenworth has been invaluable and he will be missed.
Council Member Francis stated that the accomplishment that he is most proud of over the course of his tenure, is the change in the relationship between the City and the Community – businesses and residents. Changes brought about in the Leavenworth Municipal Code, City procedures and changes in personnel have brought about a change for the better in that relationship. Council Member Francis pointed out the hardest part for the Council is hearing the opinions of friends and neighbors, but yet taking a position that is best for the entire town.
The City will begin the process of filling the City Council position held by Council Member Robert Francis by accepting letters of interest from City residents interested in serving on the Council. Under Washington law, the City Council has 90 days to appoint a city resident to fill the vacancy. Under Washington law qualified applicants must be a registered voter, must reside within the City and have lived within the City limits for at least one year. More information on the process, timeline and application will be posted on the City’s Website next week.
