The City of Leavenworth and the National Guard are setting up COVID-19 testing for the larger Leavenworth community. Two rounds of drive through testing will take place. The first event is scheduled for Wednesday September 2, 2020 through Friday September 4, 2020. Drive through testing will be held at the Leavenworth Hatchery from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The public is asked to access the Hatchery from the gate at East Leavenworth Road.
“The tests will be conducted for any member of the community who wishes to access this information; the tests are minimally invasive and include a nose swab that will be self-applied by the individual” said Mark Thomas of the National Guard.
Mayor Florea of Leavenworth indicated “we are grateful to the National Guard and Mr. Thomas for bringing these resources to our City; as we fight to contain the spread of COVID-19, we as a community, embrace knowledge. Getting tested is one minor yet important step for our City and surrounding valley to fight the pandemic with facts.”
City Administrator Ana Cortez indicated that the second testing event will take place Tuesday September 8, 2020 through Friday September 11, 2020. “The times for the testing will be the same: 2:00 to 7:00 PM. As soon as we can confirm a location that is convenient for drivers, we will announce it” she indicated.
Mayor Florea shared his hope that the greater Leavenworth community will take advantage of this free testing. “Not having to make appointments, or even leave your vehicle should eliminate barriers for our community. This is a free, accessible test” said the Mayor.
