The PUD and some of your neighbors have been looking for a location for a new substation in the Leavenworth area. A new substation is needed to support growth and development in the Upper Valley.
PUD staff will be presenting an update on the substation siting process for both Leavenworth and Chelan during the PUD Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 20 at 1pm in the Commission Board Room at 327 N Wenatchee, Ave. in Wenatchee. The public is invited to attend.
The PUD hosted a community meeting on June 28 where focus group members presented their work and gave a status update on the project. The PUD provided the final Site Evaluation Matrix and a map showing the original sixteen areas as well as the Top 3 identified locations. Updated FAQs have also recently been posted on the Bavarian Substation website.
In June 2016, PUD staff communicated with property owners in the Top 3 areas who expressed interest in selling property to the PUD for the purpose of a substation. In July, PUD staff and community focus group members agreed on one parcel within each of the three areas for an engineering consultant’s initial, high-level analysis on site feasibility. In September and October, the PUD’s consultant will perform analysis that will show high-level costs and renderings of a substation in each of the three identified parcels.
The PUD will host a community meeting on November 2 to present the consultant’s initial, high-level cost analysis on the three identified sites and gather input from the community. The PUD will advertise the Nov. 2 meeting starting in October through direct mailings, this email distribution list, the website and local media outlets.
After the community meeting, the consultant will continue with a detailed cost analysis of the sites and create renderings with details on what a substation might look like including distribution and transmission lines.
The PUD will be looking for input from the community on the results of the consultant’s initial, high-level analysis. You can share public comments at the community meeting on Nov. 2 or after the meeting through the public comment form on the webpage, emailing [email protected] or 509-661-4294.
