Icicle Creek Advisory

Leavenworth, WA– Multiple projects to help with water supply and fish recovery in the Icicle Watershed began in early May 2020.

Working with the City of Leavenworth and Icicle Peshastin Irrigation District, Trout Unlimited is installing a new water mainline, a fish screen at the city’s water supply diversion and making fish passage improvements along Icicle Creek.  The City of Leavenworth’s water diversion is located roughly 1/2 mile upstream of the Snow Lakes Trailhead parking lot on Icicle Road.  Construction began the first week of May and will last through October 31, 2020.  The project will not interrupt the City of Leavenworth’s domestic water service.

To accommodate construction activities, Icicle Road will be limited to one lane of traffic from August 5th to September 9th, 2020 from Icicle Road mile 4.7 to 4.9.  This will impact approximately 700 feet of Icicle Road. The one lane closures will take place weekdays during construction from 7am to 6pm.  A flagger will guide cars through the closure during construction.  Please pay attention to all traffic signs and be attentive in the vicinity of the Snow Lakes Trailhead parking lot.

These projects are part of efforts to improve water supply and enhance fish recovery in the Icicle Watershed and are part of the Icicle Strategy. A second phase of work will occur in fall 2020 and spring/summer 2021 on the Snow Lake Trail bridge and Icicle Peshastin Irrigation District fish screen.

For additional information about hiking and recreating in the area please contact the US Forest Service Okanogan/Wenatchee web page at www.fs.usda.gov/okawen/  and Washington Trails Association at www.wta.org. Additional information and updates about these projects will be posted as needed on the Trout Unlimited Washington Water Project Facebook page
