The 2024 Scrub Seal Project, is a significant initiative aimed at preserving our City’s roadways. The scrub seal method involves applying an asphalt emulsion and crushed rock to the roadway. This cost-effective method of pavement preservation fills existing roadway cracks and provides protection to the existing roadway surfacing. The project is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the City’s infrastructure.
- Project Highlights:
- It is anticipated that some sections of the scrub seal will fail. TIB is testing the limits of this treatment in some locations in Leavenworth’s roadway network system.
- Application of the scrub seal is a “catch up” method which will be followed with implementation of a pavement preservation program.
- This scrub seal treatment will not improve the “ride” of the road.
- Overall, design life for a scrub seal treatment is ~5-8 years.
This project is 90% funded by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB).
