Michael Rose

Mike started his career in emergency services, and before moving on to public and municipal service, he was the Assistant Manager of Emergency Preparedness at Disneyland. He spent most of his career in municipal government at the City of Dana Point in Southern California, beginning as the Emergency Services Coordinator and working his way up and serving as the Director of General Services from 2009 -2019. In that position he developed capital improvement project plans, specs, and bid packages; oversaw project construction to ensure on-time and on-budget project completion; wrote and administered maintenance contracts, professional service contracts, RFPs, lease agreements and facility use agreements; and served as Acting City Manager when the City Manager was away. He has developed and presented trainings, reports and presentations to City Council, other elected officials, State and Federal officials, and to the community.

Mike left Dana Point in 2019 to move closer to his agin parents and family in northern Idaho. He was recruited by a former Dana Point council member, and friend, to manage a ranch that had just been purchased and needed the right person to turn the business around. Mike was able to use the skills gained from his career to turn the ranch around financially.

While he enjoyed his new challenge, he missed working in the public sector. Aiming to find something close to his family, and not having an interest in moving back to California, he took a position as Director of Facilities at the Kitsap Regional Library in 2021. During his short time there, Mike has developed long and short term department goals, and began an organizational strategic planning initiative and facilities master plan. While he never expected to stay in a position such a short time (and still finds satisfaction in the work there), he is excited by the opportunity Leavenworth is offering – one that would offer the chance to use all of the skills and experiences gained over his career, return to true municipal government, be closer to family, and be involved in a tourism economy with unique and exciting challenges.
