City of Leavenworth Fall Clean-up »

Fall Clean-up 2011

Leavenworth’s annual fall clean-up for Single – Family residents will take place this year during October 10th – November 10th.  We are asking all residents on corner lots with street intersections to prune trees for better visibility.  Leaves, pine needles, and other yard debris is to be put into plastic garbage bags, no larger than 35 gallon size, not to exceed 35 pounds, and no more than 4 bags on any regularly scheduled garbage day.  Limbs must be cut into 4 foot or shorter lengths and tied in bundles. The yard debris should be out next to your regular garbage and will be picked up at the same time. There will be no extra charge for the pickup of the first 4 bags of yard waste; additional bags will be charged $3.00 per bag.  Please remember outside burning in no longer allowed.

NO furniture, appliances, dirt, rocks, or building debris will be picked up.

Sign Code Adopted »

On September 13, 2011, the Leavenworth City Council adopted the updates to the Leavenworth Municipal Code (LMC) Chapter 14.10: Signs.  The new “sign code” was completed after many months of community input, work and review by the Leavenworth Planning Commission and City Council. The message taken from the residents and business owners was for the sign code to provide a fair and equitable “playing field” for all signage users while continuing to support the advertisement needs of business owners and protecting the economic benefits derived by  the City’s Old World Bavarian-Alpine theme. A few other key items updated in the new sign code include, but are not limited to:  resolving many of the inconsistencies in the code, updating the City’s sign regulations to be consistent with changes in the law, addressing political and free speech signs, limiting the proliferation of temporary signs, and removal of “content” based regulations. The Planning Commission and City Council recognize the unique character and function of community service events, and the need for signs which support these events and aid in their success.

The City of Leavenworth Planning Commission and City Council are in the process of creating a new Parks & Recreation Plan.  The City Council recognizes that public recreation is a needed service and benefit to the people of Leavenworth and surrounding populations.  This plan will articulate the needs, level of service, and resources required to facilitate recreation opportunities and administer parks and recreation programs.  The City’s “kick-off” began in August with the Planning Commission, and asks that anyone interested in participating in the update of the current Parks & Recreation Plan complete the attached survey, contact City Hall, and / or participate in one of the update meetings.
