Leavenworth City Hall & Library
Part time Position

The City of Leavenworth is now accepting applications for a part time housekeeper for the Leavenworth City Hall and Library building. This position is self-scheduled for a maximum of 12 hours per week with an hourly wage of $15.00 – 18.00/hour depending on experience. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old and hold a WA State Driver’s License with a record that is acceptable to the City. The position will require the applicant to pass a pre-employment physical. Duties include all necessary housekeeping and cleaning tasks throughout the Leavenworth City Hall and Library building. City Hall and Library are to be cleaned two (2) nights per week on Monday and Thursday. Cleaning must take place between the hours of 5:00 PM and be finished no later than 6:00 AM the following morning.

Leavenworth Christmas Lighting Festival
Drivers traveling on US 2 to Leavenworth for week #3 of the annual Christmas Lighting Festival can expect fresh snow and extra traffic as Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge Ski Areas opened.

These are the travel time graphs from last year for Saturday and Sunday to help you plan:

  • Friday – Little to no traffic delays coming or going.
  • Saturday – 50 to 75 minute delays between Noon and 8 p.m. getting into town from the east and 35-minute delays from 2 to 3, then much shorter delays till 9 p.m. getting out of town.
  • Sunday – there were 10 to 20-minute delays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. getting into town and some slow traffic from 4 to 10 p.m. leaving Leavenworth.

Unsettled weather is expected for this weekend, with a pair of wet and warm systems on Friday and again on Sunday. There will be a dry period Saturday in between systems. The weather system on Sunday is expected to produce a significant accumulation of snow in the mountains with a mix of rain and snow in the Leavenworth area.

Friday

Leavenworth: Max temperature: 36 degrees.  Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 35% chance of rain and a rain/snow mix.  Snow accumulation: Little.

Stevens Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 60% chance of snow. Snow accumulation: Up to an inch.

Blewett Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 25% chance of snow.  Snow accumulation: Up to a quarter inch.

Friday evening

Leavenworth: Min temperature: 32 degrees.  Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 60% chance of rain or snow.  Snow accumulation: Up to 1 inch of wet snow.

Stevens Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 90% chance of snow.  Snow accumulation: 2 to 4 inches.

Blewett Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with 60% chance of snow. Snow accumulation: 1 to 3″.

Saturday

Leavenworth: Max temperature: Around 41 degrees.  Sky/weather: Mostly cloudy. A 20% chance of rain or snow in the morning.  Snow accumulation: None.

Stevens Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow, mainly in the morning.  Snow accumulation: Around 1/2 inch.

Blewett Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 30% chance of light snow in the morning.  Snow accumulation: Less than 1/2 inch.

Saturday evening

Leavenworth: Min temperature: Low 32.  Sky/weather: Mostly cloudy with a 70% chance of rain or snow, mainly after 10 p.m.  Snow accumulation: Up to an inch.

Stevens Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with an 80% chance of snow after 10 p.m. Snow accumulation: 1 to 3 inches.

Blewett Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 70% chance of snow.  Snow accumulation: around 1 inch.

Sunday

Leavenworth: Max temperature: 40 degrees. Sky/weather: Cloudy, an 80% chance of snow in the a.m. then a rain/snow mix in the p.m. Snow accumulation:1 to 2″ before it changes to rain.

Stevens Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with a 90% chance of snow. Snow accumulation: 3 to 6″.

Blewett Pass: Sky/weather: Cloudy with 90% chance of snow. Snow accumulation: 2 to 4″.

Adult Social Walking Program

The City invites the residents to a winter exercise program taking place at the Leavenworth Festhalle. Beginning Thursday, January 3, 2019, the Festhalle will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 :00 AM—9:00 AM for those wanting to walk a few laps.

There is no charge…all you need to bring is your smile and a pair of dry walking shoes. Please enter through the Front Street side door just down from the front entrance.

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children at this time.

Funeral Procession for Leavenworth Soldier

Funeral services to celebrate and honor the life of Sergeant Leandro Jasso will be held Sunday, December 9th at 11 a.m. at Cascade High School in Leavenworth. Motorist should expect delays as the funeral procession makes it way from East Wenatchee to Leavenworth Sunday morning.

The procession will depart Heritage Memorial Chapel in East Wenatchee at 9:30 a.m., head north on Valley Mall Parkway to Sunset Hwy, North on Sunset Hwy, and then east on State Highway 2 to Leavenworth. Intersections along the route will be temporarily closed as the procession passes through. Motorists should plan ahead and expect delays if they are traveling in the area.

If the public would like to show their respect to Sergeant Jasso and his family, the recommended viewing areas are Valley Mall Parkway in East Wenatchee and along Highway 2 from Riverbend Drive to the Chumstick Hwy in Leavenworth.

The funeral procession is being managed by local law enforcement and fire agencies from Chelan and Douglas Counties.

Leavenworth Christmas Lighting traffic advisory – for Week #2 – Friday 12/7 – Sunday 12/9

Traveling on US 2 to Leavenworth for week #2 of the annual Christmas Lighting Festival creates some heavy congestion east of and in town. Here are the travel time graphs for Saturday and Sunday to help you plan:

Here’s how it worked for drivers last year:

  • Friday – Little to no traffic delays coming or going.
  • Saturday – 50-minute delays between Noon and 8 p.m. getting into town from the Big Y and 40-minute delays between 5 and 9 p.m. getting out of town.
  • Sunday – there were 10 to 20-minute delays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. getting into town and the same slow traffic from 4 to 7 p.m. leaving Leavenworth.

WSDOT once again encourages drivers coming for the lighting festival to “Know before you go”.
